My 2nd Pictorial using the most simple / commonly seen type of eye shadow quad to create a sophisticated smokey look.

Through out this pictorial, the only brush that I used is the blush brush.

The entire eye makeup is solely done up with the sponge tip applicator that comes with the quad.

Note: The products used / selected was given consideration that this was for an outdoor dinner date. Products used are able to last through humidity and perspiration. Choice of colours are simple and can still "shine-through" amidst low-light conditions (i.e. Candle light Dinner, Party etc..)

Step 1: Prep Your Face
Cleanse your face, apply minimal hydrating serum/moisturizer/makeup base or primer.

Step 2: Apply foundation
Spread foundation evenly across your face.

If using liquid foundation like me, always squeeze/pour out the amount required on the back of your hand (warms up foundation easier to spread), dab your fingers to grab small amount each time to rub and spread across your face.

Note: Some liquid foundation "dry-up"/sets fast, hence not advisable to apply dots of it all over face then spread, coz might be hard to even it out.

If foundation gives a dewy/shiny finish, apply loose powder or lightly pat on compact powder over your face to set/mattify it.

For my case, this Fasio Super Fit & Stay is my only foundation that gives a matte finish, so i'll just need to prevent shine in problem areas on my nose and forehead with mattifying powder.

Step 3: Prep Your Eyes & Fill Your Brows
Apply eye primer on your lids, spread evenly all over entire lids & abit along lower lash line.

While waiting for primer to set, fill in your brows with your favourite Brow Products i.e. Brow Pencil, Brow Gel, or even a suitable shade of eyeshadow.

Step 4: Eyes - Base colour

As shown in the picture, pick the lightest colour (not the sparkly one as that is meant for the last step) in the quad and spread it all over your lids. Blend a small amount of this shade into the inner corner of your eyes to give the eye a "brightened" look.

Step 5: Eyes - Definition Colour

Next, flip the sponge tip over to the clean side and pick up the medium tone colour and spread it from the base of your lashes up towards middle of your lids where your lids naturally has a crease. In my case where my crease is not obvious (I have no crease actually!! =.=), I will usually apply this definition colour until I have only about 1cm of space from below my brows till where the eye shadow is applied.

Step 6: Eyes - Liner & Crease

Switching to the other end of the sponge tip where it is slimmer and pointed, pick up the darkest shade in the Trio and apply this to your lash line; basically, the area right on top and long your upper lashes. To create an illusion of deep-set eyes, or simply to give your eyes more definition by doing a smokey-look, spread the darker shade at the outer corner of your eyes. Refer to the photos and a short clip on how to smoke-eye using only sponge-tip applicator.

Step 7: Eyes - Sparkles

Lastly, pick up the sparkly shade that's in this palette / your own fine glitters/duo-chrome shadows, apply it under your brow bone and on top of the lightest shade of eye shadow. Include the inner corner of your eyes to keep they looking bright and alluring.

Step 8: Prim Your Lashes
Grab your eyelash curler, curl up your lashes, followed by applying your favourite mascara. In this case, to enhance the look of our smoked eyes, try to use a volumizing and lengthening mascara in a deep and intense shade. Alternatively, apply false lashes.

How to get the right Lash Curler?
For those who have never tried using lash curler before, you really gotta try it as it makes your lashes looks more pretty after mascara application. To do it properly, you must first get a curler that fits your eye. Check your eye in the mirror where you are looking at the side of your face. Does your eyelids look as though they are quite protruding or curving outwards? Or flat/sunken in? For protruding eyes, get a curler that is more curved i.e. curves like the shape of a crescent/banana. For those with flat/sunken eyes, get a curler that's got a lesser curvature. Lastly, before buying that curler, if possible, hold it infront of your eyes and check that the part of the lash curler where you need to place your lashes in-between them, is long enough to fit the whole stretch of your eyelashes. No point getting a lash curler that fits the curvature but is shorter/longer than your eyes and makes it difficult for you.

How do I curl my lashes?
First, open the lash curler (there some some with the springy mechanism, and some without), hold it infront of your eye and slowly position it such that your eyelashes rest on the base of the curler where there is a rubber strip. Check that you do not position your lashes such that it is so close to the root of the lashes that you risk pulling  them off. Next, close the curler and firmly but not too hard, clamp down on your lashes to curl it. If you clamp it down too hard, your lashes will look as though it was bent forcefully till a sharp angle is formed at the "bottom of the curl". If you did not use enough force, you have to clamp it a few times to achieve a curled look to your lashes. hmm... I think I will do short clip to demonstrate how this is done.

Step 9: Blush & Contour
For this look, I have skipped my blush and used bronzer for contour. Apply the bronzer / face powder or even eyeshadow colour that is  2 shades darker than your skin tone along the jawline starting from the back of your ears. Ensure that you apply the bronzer slightly inwards under your chin along the jawline, blend it out so that a natural shadow forms along the entire jawline. Next apply the contour in the hollows of your cheeks, where the flesh naturally sinks in. This should start from the side of your face where its near the middle of your ear till somewhere near to the corners of your mouth.

Step 9: Lip Colour
Usually for smokey-looks and when you use darker shades on your eyes, it is recommended by most makeup artists to tone down the colour of your lips. So choose a natural shade of gloss/lipstick or light beige/pink shade for your lips. This will ensure that the focus of people's attention will remain on your eyes.

With that, we've completed our look! Soothe out your hair/ style it and accessorize for your date!

Have a great weekend/ a night out~
